Meet Holly Bacon; our Marketing Assistant. From riding in cars with goats to acquiring odd nicknames, learn more about how Holly found herself working for Affari!

How did you find your way to Affari?

Before Affari I was at sixth form studying A-levels. I had to make the big decision on whether I was going to go to university or do an apprenticeship. Luckily for Affari, I chose an apprenticeship! I saw the apprentice vacancy for an Administrative Assistant at a fast-growing creative agency just under 2 years ago now. I applied, successfully passed the interview stage and found out whilst revising for my last A-level exam that I’d been offered the job. I then started on the Monday after completing my last exam, so I never really got the summer break that most A-level students rave about, but this did mean I got to go straight into the world of work and earning for myself!

What are the three best things about yourself?

  1. I consider myself to be a good friend.
  2. My witty charm. I have an answer to everything. 😉
  3. My last name; Bacon. Everybody loves Bacon.

What’s one of your best experiences?

I travelled to Uganda in July 2013 and did some volunteering in two orphanages. The first was called ‘Home of Joy’ and specifically cared for disabled children and the second was based on an island just off of Lake Victoria for local children. I was really scared to begin with, as I hadn’t gone with a specific charity or group and I was only 15 years old. But, I did all the fundraising beforehand and raised over £3,000 from car boot sales and coffee mornings. The weirdest part of the experience was buying a goat for the orphanage, they needed milk…and I had to travel miles in the back of a taxi with said goat after purchasing him from the centre of Kampala, the busy capital of Uganda!  It was hard work, but well worth it.

What other interests do you have other than Affari?

Asides from the usual going out and socialising with friends…I enjoy photography, my favourite subjects are my beloved pooches, Toby & Ted 🐶🐶. I’m also big on fashion and beauty, I don’t think you’d be able to find many make-up products I don’t have.

What’s your favourite quote and why?

“Beauty is found within” … From the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. It’s mine and my mum’s favourite film and it reminds me to not focus too much on the materialistic things in life and to surround yourself with those who have ‘beauty’ within.

What’s #1 on your bucket list?

I don’t have a specific location I’m desperate to visit but I’d love to go to an elephant sanctuary. I don’t like zoos but love animals, so it would be amazing to see elephants in their natural environment.

If you could swap lives with someone for a day who would it be?

Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl. She’s a 10/10 and has a great wardrobe…watch the show!

What are you most afraid of?

Bridges, being mugged off and people who have foot fetishes!

What’s the weirdest thing about you?

I’ve been nicknamed ‘sausage fingers and toes’ because they’re chubby and look like sausages. It doesn’t help that my last name is Bacon!
