Global Recycling Day falls on 18th March, and as a keen recycling ambassador myself here at Affari, I thought I’d share my favourite recycling initiative ever, which was officially launched back in January by Dell!

Dell is a fantastic example of how a bit of creative thinking can go a long way in working to improve recycling initiatives, whilst producing incredibly beautiful end-products.

Dell recently launched an unlikely yet stunning collaboration with jewellery brand BaYou with Love and designer Nikki Reed. The collection ‘BaYou with Love X Dell’  consists of jewellery made from 100% recycled gold and other materials from Dell technology, predominantly computer motherboards, hardware that is usually hidden and never seen.

There are 800x more gold in a tonne of computer motherboards than in a tonne of ore from the Earth! Meaning that acquiring gold from old motherboards, that would otherwise contribute to harmful landfills, can be recycled to fulfil new purposes. This is also a whopping 99% less harmful to the environment than mining gold from the Earth!

An inspiring and thought-provoking collaboration from Dell, this shows the marriage between technology and sustainability in a fresh light, which visualises the future in new and exciting ways.

But this isn’t the first step Dell has taken on their journey to becoming a more eco-friendly tech giant. Since 2012, Dell has recycled more than 50 million pounds of post-consumer materials into new tech products and as part of its ‘Legacy of Good’ programme, Dell has actually pledged to recycle 100 million pounds of materials into it’s product portfolio by 2020.
