NTU - Enabling Innovation.
We were approached by NTU to create an exciting 3D animation to help give form to their “Working with You” sub-brand, which provides a plethora of support enabling SME’s in and around the Nottingham area to innovate. We wanted to create motion graphics that paid homage to NTU’s innovative and supportive ethos and represented their fun, friendly and energetic approach to working with local businesses. The end result was a colourful, playful, and visually engaging 3D animation that retained it’s main aim of informing the local business community about the support and services NTU are able to provide through their ‘Enabling Innovation’ scheme.

Pre-Production
Process: Concept development (style frames), storyboarding, 3D Modelling.
A discovery workshop was held to help us truly understand the story NTU wanted to tell with this piece. Once this was established the team set out to define a visual style that was energetic, inter-connected and friendly.
Early style-frames were created in Cinema 4D and provided to the client for approval.
Pre-Production

Production
Process: Cameras, rigging, and rendering.
Due to the lightning-fast turnaround, production had to be streamlined. We had the entire Motion team collaborating on this project. With so many designers all with varying skill levels, you have to be vigilant with managing the consistency or things very quickly start to look and feel disparate. Our Technical Lead worked diligently to define a best practice for the rest of the team to follow. This consisted of meticulously organised Cinema 4D template files, as well as an assortment of early assets to define the quality of all subsequent assets the team had to create.
Production

A little noise removal and an overall colour grade were applied. Special care was taken to correct the hue and saturation as we’d detected inconsistencies when comparing our hues with the official NTU brand colours at render stage. For the audio, we selected an assortment of sounds that complimented the materials in the animation, bouncy and playful textures were added as well as a handful of foley sounds to make assets like the drone and coins feel more integrated.
